WHY IS TRIMMING YOUR CANDLE WICK IMPORTANT?

You invest time, energy and money selecting the perfect candle for your space. Why wouldn’t you want to take proper care of your investment in order to maximize the life of your candle?

Trimming your wick prior to each burn does just that, it maximizes the life of your candle.

Here’s how it works. There is the “fuel” which is the wax (coconut-soy for our candles), and the wick, (ours made of 100% cotton). When you light your candle, the heat from the flame melts the wax that is surrounding it. This wax is then drawn up the wick by something called capillary action.

If your wick is too long, not only does it shorten the life of your candle by about 25%, but it can also become crooked and cause uneven burning, flaring or sooting.

As such, it’s really important to trim your wick to approximately 1/4” prior to each burn. When using a wick trimmer, they are designed to hold the debris of the trim. If any debris happens to fall into the candle wax, you can use the wick dipper to dip it out. It’s important to do so, as any debris that is left in the candle wax, adds more fuel than the candle is meant to handle which can cause a flare up or a small fire.
